Accessibility

Our Mission

Organize inclusive, diverse monthly peer-led educational skillshares for LGBTQIA+ adults and allies which empower authentic self-expression and build thriving communities.

Transparency

Every official Queer Scouts event includes this accessibility badge in all of our marketing materials. It provides an at-a-glance view of the access needs we accommodate as an organization, as well as the specific access needs met for each event. An example event is provided below.

A Detailed View

No one seeking an accommodation should have to do the work of figuring out if an event is accessible to them. That’s why, on every event page for each Queer Scouts event, we include detailed information about the accessibility of each space we use. Attendees are also welcome to reach out if there’s anything we may have missed in our descriptions or if additional accommodations are needed.

An Example Event

In this example event, the access needs covered include immune system safety, sensory needs, and financial accessibility. Physical access needs are not met for this event, with an explanation provided in the detailed view. Below is an example of the detailed view, allowing attendees to better understand how the organizers are considering each accessibility category for this specific event.

Physical

This event involves a hike through the woods on unpaved paths and requires a moderate level of exertion (a link to a site like AllTrails will be provided in this case).

Sensory

This event is fragrance-free and takes place deep in the woods, away from loud noises. If any attendee needs a sensory break, the group will also take a break so no one is left behind.

Transit

The entrance to the trail is accessible by public transit via the #12 bus at stop 1 or by the G train at the Wellington stop, which is a 5 minute walk from both the bus stop and train station. Check out this What 3 Words link for our exact meeting spot.

Immune System Safety

This event takes place outdoors and is mask-optional.

Financial

No Scout left behind! Queer Scouts events operate on a sliding scale, from free to a fully subsidized price when possible.

Bathroom Info

There are four gender neutral restrooms located in the main building near the parking lot where we will be meeting.
